A Natick man who authorities said posed as Michael Jackson’s nephew and claimed to run a clothing company to scam a woman out of money temporarily pleaded guilty to the charges in Natick District Court.

However, Andre Vann, 29, withdrew his guilty plea at a hearing on Wednesday when Judge David Cunis said he was going to sentence Vann to serve a year in jail.

“I think we can judge his character and it’s not good,” Cunis said.

Natick Police arrested Vann in February after authorities said his name was Gepetto Jackson, and was the son of Jermaine Jackson, who is Michael Jackson’s brother.

Using that name, authorities said he convinced a woman that he was going to hire her as a model for his clothing company and tricked her into buying a computer, a phone, to pay for his hotel rooms and to have sex.

In all, authorities said Vann scammed the woman out of about $2,300.

Vann, authorities said, has conducted similar scams around the country, bamboozling women out of $200,000 using the same gimmick. He has a case in Uxbridge District Court in which he is accused ofscamming a woman out of $10,000. He has cases in Malden, Norwood, Florida and Connecticut.

Vann is charged with larceny of more than $250 by a single scheme. He has been held on $10,000 bail since his February arraignment.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Emily Walsh originally asked Judge David Cunis to sentence Vann to two and a half years in jail with two years to serve. However, the maximum sentence is two years, so she revised the sentencing recommendation to two years in jail with 18 months to be served and the balance suspended for two years.

Vann’s lawyer, Kenneth Liebman asked the judge to sentence Vann to the 79 days he has already served.

“My suggestion to my client was to try the case, but he has been held for 79 days and he doesn’t want to be held any longer,” Liebman said.

When Cunis said he was going to sentence Vann to the year in jail, Vann withdrew his plea. Instead, Vann will go to trial later this year. He will remain held on the $10,000 bail. He still has warrants from Connecticut and Georgia.
